A good relationship should bring you joy and pleasure!
In the poem 'My Love is Life to Ice' by Edmund Spenser, he describes how he believes love is something that can alter the course of human kind. Or to put it simply, love has the potential to dramatically and wholeheartedly changes our lives.
It is a powerful poem! It sounds like he is talking to himself and reflecting on the power of his love. By the end of the poem he answers all the questions he had previously posed with the answer: 'Love has to the power to change everything'.
My love is like to ice, and I to fire:
How comes it then that this her cold so great
Is not dissolved through my so hot desire,
But harder grows the more I her entreat?
Or how comes it that my exceeding heat
Is not allayed by her heart-frozen cold,
But that I burn much more in boiling sweat,
And feel my flames augmented manifold?
What more miraculous thing may be told,
That fire, which all things melts, should harden ice,
And ice, which is congeal’d with senseless cold,
Should kindle fire by wonderful device?
Such is the power of love in gentle mind,
That it can alter all the course of kind.
Now, this is a great way to think, and I wish all relationships could be happy with just the premise of 'we love each other', but unfortunately that is not the case.
This is simply the case because nothing stays the same and as you and your partner change so do factors impacting on your relationship. If you want to continue to have a healthy relationship, both of you need to take the time to value each other and the relationship as a whole.
Here are some of the ways you embrace your loving relationship:
- When an issue arises, make sure you honestly understand what the problem is;
- Develop your communication skills with your partner;
- Understand there are two individuals in a relationship and they both need a voice;
- Learn how to be considerate of each other;
- Assess yourself and if you are causing the conflict (if yes - heal yourself first; and
- Seek help if you need it.
Do you take the time to work on your relationship?
I hope this article has given you something to think about. So let me say this: Do not let things fester, take the time and action to work on your relationships!
